First Trans Anguilla Airways flight to Tortola dubbed a ‘significant achievement’

Trans Anguilla Airways has launched its new 45-minute direct air route linking Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands.

The first flight took off from Clayton J Lloyd International Airport (AXA) and landed in Terrance B Lettsome International Airport (EIS) in Tortola on 17 April.

Marking the commemorative occasion before take-off were Trans Anguilla Airways pilots and staff, government officials and tourism representatives.

On arrival the flight was met with a water salute and the Government of the Virgin Islands hosted a special ceremony at the airport to welcome the airline.

In a press release on 18 April, the Anguilla Tourist Board said: “This milestone represents a significant achievement for Anguilla’s aviation sector and underscores the continued advancement of regional connectivity across the Caribbean.

“The launch of this new route reflects the strength and growth of local aviation enterprise while creating enhanced opportunities for travel, tourism, business and broader regional engagement.”

The service, which will on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, removes the need for travellers to transit through St Maarten, offering a more direct connection for both leisure and business passengers.

“This new route not only strengthens accessibility within the region but also reinforces a shared commitment to regional collaboration, connectivity and sustainable tourism development,” the tourist board said.

“Improved inter-island access remains an important component in supporting visitor movement, facilitating business exchange, and encouraging stronger people-to-people ties across neighbouring territories.”

The route comes at a key time as Anguilla prepares for its summer calendar of events including the Anguilla Culinary Experience and the island’s flagship Anguilla Summer Festival.

Introductory fares for the new route have been set at US$209 one way and US$418 return.
