The island’s youth musicians took centre stage at an Anguilla Strings Programme concert showcasing their musical development and ensemble performance.
The annual event at Bethel Methodist Church in South Hill on 13 June was hosted by Volta Music Foundation and the government’s departments of education, youth and culture.
It featured a newly commissioned work by Anguillian composer and and Volta ambassador Kamal Vanterpool, performed jointly by the students and their teachers.

The concert followed an intensive week of rehearsals led by visiting teaching artists from the United States, who delivered daily classes and coaching sessions on campus from 8 to 12 June.
The programme, delivered free of charge to participating students, combined performance training, music theory and ensemble work designed to build confidence and technical skill.

In a press release on 5 June, Yalyen Savignon, founder and executive director of Volta Music Foundation, said: “Music is more than notes and instruments – it is a bridge to confidence, creativity and community.
“Watching our students perform alongside their teachers and premiere a work written by one of Anguilla’s own, reminds us why this work matters.
“We are helping young musicians find their voices, build resilience and unlock opportunities that can change the course of their lives.”
