In a press release, the All Nations United Swim Club highlighted the significance of her achievement, noting the challenges faced by Anguilla’s swimmers who train without a standard pool facility.
Instead they carry out much of their conditioning in open water, adapting to natural sea conditions rather than controlled lane environments.
“Transitioning from the natural currents and waves of the ocean to the completely different environment of a racing pool is no small feat – it takes incredible focus, technique and mental toughness,” the club said.
”Ameiah’s success in St Maarten proves that our unconventional arena only builds stronger, more resilient swimmers.
“We are so incredibly proud of her hard work, dedication and the brilliant way she represented All Nations United Swim Club.”
Also winning a podium place at the competition was Jonathan Irizarry, who secured the bronze medal in the boys’ 15 to 17 age group 50m breaststroke.
The club said he put on “an absolute clinic of determination, technique and heart” and “showed exactly what hard work and discipline can achieve”.
“Jonathan, the entire All Nations United Swim Club family is incredibly proud of you. You represented the club and your team with pure class and excellence.”
The club thanked coach Franky Carty and his team for the invitation to compete in St Maarten.
