Key oversight committee roles filled in Anguilla House of Assembly

New members have been appointed to the Public Accounts Committee and the Administration Committee in the Anguilla House of Assembly.

The appointments were confirmed during the 22 April sitting, in line with established procedures to support parliamentary oversight and administrative efficiency.

According to the House of Assembly (Procedure) Rules, 2021, the Public Accounts Committee must consist of between three and five members drawn from both sides of the assembly.

Island Harbour representative and opposition leader Ellis Webster was appointed as chair and member of the committee.

Road North representative Merrick Richardson, Valley South representative Cordell Richardson, and islandwide representative Jeison Bryan were also appointed as members.

The House of Assembly (Procedure) Rules, 2021 also state that there should be a standing committee known as the Administration Committee.

It will consider the services provided for and by the assembly and make recommendations on those services to the clerk and the speaker.

The committee must consist of between three and five members of the assembly, drawn from both sides, and the speaker will be the chair, the rules state.

During the latest sitting, the five committee members were appointed.

They are islandwide members Jose Vanterpool and Kyle Hodge, Valley North representative Shellya Rogers, Road South representative Haydn Hughes and Road North representative Merrick Richardson.

The motion for appointment of the committee said it will continue the assembly’s work on parliamentary reform aimed at improving its democratic and good governance standards.
