Cove Bay wharf is to undergo “urgent” rehabilitation ahead of the upcoming tourist season, according to infrastructure minister Jose Vanterpool.
The concrete landing and docking facility, frequently used by fishing and excursion boats, is partially damaged and currently unsafe for operation.
In a government press conference on 7 September, Vanterpool said the issue had previously been brought to his attention by the public and stakeholders who use the wharf.

He added that Cardigan Connor, the Anguilla House of Assembly representative for District 7 – West End, has “constantly advocated for” its repair.
Vanterpool said the project has been moved up the priority list within his ministry, and marine engineers had performed both visual and water-based assessments on the wharf.
“Following this assessment, it has since been decided to proceed with an urgent rehabilitation of the wharf to ensure safe operations for fishermen and passengers for the upcoming tourism season,” he said.
He added that the project has now moved to the procurement submission stage and is awaiting consideration by the procurement board.
Cove Bay is located on Anguilla’s south west coast between Maunday’s Bay and Rendezvous Bay. It is largely undeveloped, with Cap Juluca sitting at its western end.
