Morris Vanterpool secure victory at Primary School Netball Tournament

The 17th annual Primary School Netball Tournament came to an exciting conclusion with young athletes from across Anguilla competing in a spirited finals day.

Morris Vanterpool Primary School emerged as champions on 6 May, securing first place ahead of Valley Primary School in second and Orealia Kelly Primary School in third.

Alwyn A Richardson Primary School finished fourth, while Vivien Vanterpool Primary School placed fifth in the ANGLEC-sponsored competition.

“From the very first whistle to the final buzzer, the tournament was filled with energy determination, teamwork and incredible sportsmanship,” the Anguilla Netball Association said in a Facebook post.

Individual performances were also recognised, with players from each school earning ‘Most Valuable Player’ awards.

Jahvinique Huligar was named MVP for Alwyn A Richardson Primary School, Cynfanie Liburd for Morris Vanterpool Primary School, Cimiyah Carter for Orealia Kelly Primary School, Elizabeth Laing for Valley Primary School and Taela Hodge for Vivien Vanterpool Primary School.

Several special awards were presented at the close of the tournament.

Cynfanie Liburd of Morris Vanterpool Primary School was named ‘Best Center Court Player’, while Cimiyah Carter of Orealia Kelly Primary School received the award for ‘Best Defensive Player’.

Miltasia Mercer of Morris Vanterpool Primary School was recognised as ‘Best Shooter’, and Elizabeth Laing of Valley Primary School was named the tournament’s overall ‘Most Valuable Player’.

Organisers thanked the coaches, teachers, parents, umpires, volunteers and supporters who contributed to the success of the event and praised the standard of competition displayed.

To the players, the association said: “Your passion, discipline, hard work and love for the game made this tournament truly special. You all represented your schools with pride and excellence.”

Special appreciation was also extended to sponsor ANGLEC for its continued support of youth development through sport over the past 17 years.

“Your partnership continues to create opportunities and unforgettable memories for our young athletes,” the association added.
