Coming in first was De Wizard, which included crew member and government minister Jose Vanterpool, while second place went to Light and Peace, with minister Cardigan Connor on board.

Sonic came in third while Satellite took the fourth position.

All participating crews received prizes from the Anguilla Boat Racing Association. The first prize was $1,100, second was $900, third was $800 and the fourth prize was $600.

“With strong competition, impressive skill, and true Anguillian sailing spirit on display, the race set an exciting tone for the season ahead,” the government said in a statement on 30 March.

The A Class boats are at least 28 feet long, crewed by up to a dozen sailors and are known for their speed and competitiveness.

The season began on 22 February when De Wizard and Light and Peace battled in the A Class Knock Out Challenge in Road Bay.

The race was the first in a series of 17 that makes up Anguilla’s A Class boat racing season, with the next – the A Class Festival Del Mar – taking place on 5 April from Sandy Ground.
