Anguilla cyclists secure podium success at regional championships in Antigua

Cyclists from Anguilla delivered a series of podium finishes at two major regional cycling events held concurrently in Antigua.

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) Invitational and Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Championship took place from Old Parham Road on 31 May.

Masters B cyclist Craig Emmanuel secured first place in both the ABWU and OECS competitions, completing the four-lap circuit in 2:11:49.90.

Following closely, Patrick Niles achieved second place in the Masters B category, completing his four-lap circuit in 2:23:09.29.

Anguilla’s junior cyclists also attained prominent podium positions, the Anguilla Cycling Association said in a Facebook post on 1 June.

Kamari Ruan secured second place in both the ABWU and OECS competitions, while Ephraim Hughes-Hodge captured third position.

Carl Thomas completed three laps in the sports category, earning third position, while elite cyclist, Justin Hodge, finished his five-lap circuit.

“Our cyclists represented Anguilla with distinction and we are immensely proud of their exceptional performance in Antigua,” the association said.

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union celebrated its 59th anniversary this year, while the OECS Championship made its return after a seven-year hiatus.

Anguilla’s cyclists are now preparing for the 25th Annual John T Memorial Weekend cycling race scheduled for 3 to 5 July.
