Anguilla’s residents invited to have their say on government spending in 2027

Residents of Anguilla are being invited to help shape government spending for 2027 through a new Citizens’ Budget Priorities Survey.

The survey will allow them to set out their funding preferences, with responses used to guide fiscal planning and ensure spending decisions better reflect community needs.

Speaking during a press conference, Premier Cora Richardson Hodge, who also serves as finance minister, encouraged the public to take part in the Budget Unit’s survey before it closes on 20 May.

“We recognise that the people of Anguilla are directly impacted by the decisions made through the national budget and it’s important that their voices help shape those decisions,” she said on 18 May.

The information collected through the survey will help to inform the government’s planning policy discussions and resource allocation as it prepares for the 2027 Budget cycle.

“The survey is simple, it’s accessible and it provides an opportunity, an important opportunity for public involvement in shaping the future development of Anguilla,” the premier said.

This is the second time the exercise has taken place after a survey was released last year for the 2026 Budget. Take part in the survey here.

Fiscal planning framework

The premier said the government has also begun the medium term expenditure and fiscal planning framework for the upcoming budget cycle.

Throughout May, the Ministry of Finance and the Budget Unit have been consulting with ministries and departments.

Observers have also been invited to Anguilla from the Caribbean Development Bank, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office and the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

They will participate in strategic planning discussions focused not only on the 2027 Budget but also on Anguilla’s medium term fiscal outlook, development priorities and long term sustainability.

The premier said this year’s mission comes at an important time as Anguilla continues to benefit from strong revenue performance, while managing global uncertainty, inflationary pressures and external risks.

“This process is important in ensuring that the government’s policies, spending priorities and revenue strategies remain aligned with national goals and fiscal responsibility over the coming years,” she added.

Richardson Hodge said the Citizens’ Budget Priorities Survey complements this work by ensuring that the public’s voice is incorporated into these broader planning discussions.
