Germain Hughes becomes most-capped player in Anguilla’s history

Germain Hughes has become the most-capped player in Anguilla’s football history, a milestone that reflects his long-standing dedication and key role in the national team.

He has made more than 36 international appearances for the senior men’s national team, as confirmed by the online database Global Sports Archive.

According to a press release from the Anguilla Football Association on 9 June, Hughes has consistently exemplified what it means to represent Anguilla on the international stage.

He plays with passion, discipline and unwavering commitment to the sport he loves, and his journey has been one of perseverance, leadership and immense national pride, it added.

“Germain’s achievement is more than just a number,” said Anguilla Football Association president Girdon Connor, adding: “It represents years of dedication, sacrifice, and service to Anguilla.

“He has become a role model for the next generation of players, and his legacy will live on in the history of Anguillian football.”

Hughes has donned the national colours across World Cup qualifiers, Nations League battles, and numerous international friendlies.

His contributions on and off the field continue to inspire teammates, coaches and fans alike, the press release said.

The club expressed its heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to Hughes for his outstanding contribution to Anguilla’s football journey, and wished him continued success in the matches ahead.
