ANGLEC has issued a warning against climbing trees near power lines after a man died in an incident involving electrical infrastructure today (21 October).
The utility company urged residents to report potentially hazardous trees and seek professional assistance with trimming near power lines rather than attempting the work themselves.
In a public emergency notice, it said: “This tragedy serves as a reminder of the serious dangers associated with tree-climbing and all activities near power lines.”

ANGLEC strongly advised against climbing trees of any kind located near electrical or other utility lines “as doing so can pose serious risks to life and safety”.
“Together, through greater awareness, timely reporting and community cooperation, we can help prevent future tragedies and protect lives,” the notice said.
The company said it conducts tree trimming to maintain electrical safety, however, its ability to trim or remove trees on private property is restricted by property rights and the need for owners’ permission.
“ANGLEC therefore relies heavily on the cooperation and consent of property owners and continues to advocate for stronger policies to support preventative maintenance and vigilance,” it said.
The public is urged to report dangerous trees by calling ANGLEC’s Trouble Call line on (264) 497-2891.
ANGLEC extended condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the man who lost his life.
Anguilla Focus has reached out to ANGLEC for further details on the incident and is awaiting a response.
