Excess sargassum causes mould at Vivien Vanterpool Primary School

Sargassum buildup on the beach near Vivien Vanterpool Primary School in Anguilla has led to mould growth inside the educational facility.

According to a press release from the Department of Education, pupils will transition to remote learning from Wednesday to Friday, 4 to 6 September, while the problem is resolved.

It added that it is taking “immediate steps” to sanitise the Island Harbour school to ensure it is safe for students and teachers.

In October 2023, Vivien Vanterpool Primary School joined ‘Project Inspire‘, which provides laptops and tablets for students and teachers, as well as other computer software and technology.

To assist with the short term transition to remote learning, the ‘Project Inspire’ IT team has been mobilised to provide additional support for students and teachers.

“The Department of Education requests the understanding and support of all stakeholders over the next few days as it works to resolve the situation,” the press release said.

In person classes will resume on Monday, 9 September.

  1. This seems like a very well produced newspaper! It is a refreshing to have an alternate news source.
