Young Anguillian Senaiya Richardson to speak in UK’s House of Commons

Member of the Anguilla Youth Parliament, Senaiya Richardson, will represent Anguilla in the House of Commons in Westminster, London, this week.

She will be delivering a two-minute speech on issues that matter most to the island on Thursday, 6 November, as part of a special session of the UK Youth Parliament.

Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle extended the invitation to young representatives from the United Kingdom’s overseas territories and Crown dependencies.

The topics for the speeches were selected through the ‘Make Your Mark’ ballot, a youth-led democratic process involving high school students, a statement from the Anguilla House of Assembly said.

Richardson will speak on the theme, ‘Education and learning: School/college and access to university and apprenticeships’, highlighting the unique challenges and aspirations of young people in Anguilla.

Her address will form part of the Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies Special Speeches segment, scheduled from 12.10pm to 12.40pm GMT (7.10am to 07.40am Anguilla time).

This occasion amplifies the voices of Anguilla’s young people on the international stage and highlights the importance of inclusive dialogue on education, opportunity and youth empowerment, the assembly said.

The event will be broadcast live on https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Guide, allowing audiences in Anguilla and around the world to witness this proud moment.

Richardson’s participation in the event is funded by the Government of Anguilla‘s Department of Youth and Culture.
