Tourism minister says there will be no all-inclusive resorts in Anguilla

Anguilla’s tourism minister, Haydn Hughes, has firmly stated that the government has no plans to welcome any all-inclusive resorts to the island.

“I just want to say something on some rumours, based on some calls that I have been receiving over the weekend,” he said during a government press conference on 16 December.

“There’s no truth whatsoever that we are going to be moving towards all inclusive in Anguilla – absolutely no truth.”

Currently, Anguilla is marketed as a luxury destination, home to several high end resorts and villas catering to travellers looking for peace and tranquility.

Some of the most popular include the Four Seasons Resort and Residences, Zemi Beach House, Cap Juluca, Aurora Anguilla Resort, Sheriva Villas and Malliouhana.

“We have a particular niche tourism, and we’re going to continue along that path,” Hughes told listeners of the live broadcast press conference.

“There’s no truth, zero truth, to the rumour that Anguilla is going to be moving towards all inclusive. That is not going to happen, will never happen under this administration.”

There are several major all-inclusive resort brands operating in the Caribbean, with Sandals Resorts, a Jamaican company, being the largest.

It runs Sandals locations in Jamaica, St Lucia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Antigua, Curacao, Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as a Beaches resort in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Other notable all-inclusive resort brands in the region include RIU Hotels and Resorts and Barcelo Hotel Group.
