Women and girls from across Anguilla came together for a weekend of football, workshops, school visits and community activities during Girls on the Move.
The Anguilla Football Association (AFA) in partnership with FIFA organised the programme to promote greater visibility, participation and empowerment for women and girls in football.
The weekend started on the Friday, 18 September, with the Girls on the Move roadshow which set off at 8.30am and visited schools across the island throughout the day.

“From school to school, we connected with young girls, shared our voices, celebrated women in football and reminded the next generation that there is a place for them in this game,” AFA said in a Facebook post.
“As we made our way across Anguilla, the energy, excitement and support we received showed exactly why initiatives like this matter.
“It was about being seen, being heard and showing every girl that she has the power to play, lead and inspire.”
On the Saturday, attendees enjoyed matches, lunch and refreshments, music and entertainment, dance and fun games at the Girls on the Move festival at the AFA turf field from 10am until 6pm.
During the weekend a Girls on the Move workshop created a space for women and girls to listen, learn and connect through real stories, real challenges, powerful successes and words of motivation.
“From meaningful testimonials and discussions to entertainment and community, the evening reminded us of the strength that comes from sharing our experiences and supporting one another,” AFA said.
And on the Sunday, the group teamed up with the Anguilla Environmental Protection team for an island-wide community clean-up.
The activity began at 6am at the Raymond E Guishard Technical Centre and continued for several hours in sporting areas across Anguilla.
