Anguilla’s Lerique Franklin named top male student in regional CCSLC exams

Anguilla’s Lerique Franklin has been named top-performing male student in this year’s Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC) examinations.

The fourth-form student at Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School achieved grades of ‘master’ in English, integrated science, mathematics, social studies and ‘competent’ in digital literacy.

He was honoured for his efforts regionally at the 2025 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Top Awards Ceremony held in Port of Spain in Trinidad on 11 December.

And just last month, Franklin and 16 other Anguillian students were celebrated at home at the annual Recognition Ceremony for candidates who earned placement on the regional CXC Merit List.

Deavene Guishard, Anguilla’s CXC registrar and education officer, said the students’ successes were “a clear indication of the resilience and tenacity of our teachers and students”.

The CCSLC is a foundational certification for lower secondary students (grades seven to nine) and provides a global benchmark, the Department of Education said in a press release on 18 December.

It is recognised by UK ENIC as comparable to the completion of grade nine in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.

The certificate serves as a bridge to higher qualifications such as CSEC and CAPE, and familiarises students with school-based assessments prior to reaching upper secondary levels.

It also ensures that every student leaves school with an internationally recognised credential, regardless of their future academic pathway, the education department said.
