Farmers, fishers and members of the public came together for AgriFest 2026, a one-day celebration of local agriculture in Anguilla that highlighted the island’s produce, traditions and food systems.
The opening programme for the community-focused event on 8 May featured cultural performances, tributes and remarks recognising the resilience and dedication of the agricultural sector.
Speakers from the government, agriculture and tourism stressed the importance of strengthening local food systems and supporting farmers and fishers to ensure long-term sustainability.

Donalee Richardson, president of the Anguilla Farmers Association, told attendees that the event is not just a collection of farm products and livestock, but “a testament of resilience”.
“It is a glimpse into what our island can achieve when we treat our soil not just as ground we walk on but as a foundation of national security,” she said.
A range of activities drew strong public engagement throughout the day at Coronation Avenue in The Valley, including the Mango Eating Competition and the Greasy Pig Competition.

A central display of fresh local produce showcased the diversity of farming across the island, underlining the role of agriculture in food security and local livelihoods.
Visitors also explored booths featuring local products, agricultural innovations, food tastings, art and family-friendly activities.
The Government of Anguilla hosted the event alongside the Department of Natural Resources, with support from the Anguilla Tourist Board.
In a press release on 13 May, the government thanked the public for their participation, saying the strong turnout continues to support the growth of agriculture, the economy and community spirit.
“We look forward to an even bigger and better AgriFest, one that continues to honour our farmers and fishers, strengthen our local food systems and showcase the very best of what Anguilla has to offer,” it added.
