Young footballers explore athletic and academic opportunities at camp

More than 30 young football players between the ages of 14 and 24 took part in a two-day training camp where they gained valuable skills and insights into academic and athletic opportunities.

The Anguilla Football Association (AFA) hosted the ‘Soccer Camp ID’ which took place at the AFA stadium on 7 and 8 December.

Youth coach Anthony Roy from the AR Student Athlete Soccer Scholarship Academy led sessions that focused on key skills such as vision, first touch, passing, and game speed.

He also taught participants the importance of communication and teamwork in building cohesive and effective on-field dynamics.

In addition to the on-field training, Roy held a dedicated discussion with the players and their parents about opportunities available at colleges and universities in the United States.

He provided practical advice on preparing written and video profiles to enhance prospects of securing scholarships.

According to an AFA press release on 3 January, the camp proved to be an invaluable experience for the young players.

“The AFA remains committed to fostering talent and creating opportunities for players to excel both on and off the field,” it continued.

“The Soccer Camp ID was a significant step toward achieving this mission, and the association looks forward to hosting more events like this in the future.”

Roy, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago and has lived in the US for 20 years, created the AR Student Athlete Soccer Scholarship Academy to create empowering opportunities for others.
