Water supply to parts of western Anguilla will be rationed in the coming weeks due to low pressure and leaks in the distribution system.
In a public statement issued on 23 June, the Department of Water Services said the restrictions would begin immediately and continue “until further notice”.
“Due to low pressures being experienced and the ongoing leak detection troubleshooting, this schedule remains into effect and will take place every Monday and Wednesday,” it said.
The department apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
On 23 June, between 8am and 4pm, the affected areas are Wallblake, George Hill, Sandy Ground, The Forest, Long Ground, Statia Valley, Little Harbour, Blowing Point and Cul De Sac.
The areas where water is continuing to be supplied are Rendezvous West, The Cove, Meads Bay, Long Bay and West End.
On 25 June, between 8am and 4pm, the areas where water will be restricted are the vicinity of Anguilla Trading – South Hill, Rendezvous West, The Cove, Meads Bay, Long Bay and West End.
The areas where water will still be supplied are Upper and Lower South Hill including Back Street.
Earlier this month, water minister Kyle Hodge said interruptions to Anguilla’s water supply over the past few months were due to overtime not being paid to key manual workers.
During an interview on Radio Anguilla he said the Department of Water Services issue dated back nearly a year but were being resolved.
In February, former utilities minister Haydn Hughes said up to 80% of Anguilla’s water supply was being lost into the ground due to “dilapidated and old” pipelines.
Some of the island’s tanks have never had water in them and others would “tear up the pipes” if they were filled because of outdated and failing infrastructure, he said at the time.
Anguilla’s water distribution network was managed by the statutory body, Water Corporation of Anguilla, from 2009 until 2024 when it was replaced by the Department of Water Services.
