Governor Julia Crouch and Premier Ellis Webster have offered their thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the two men killed in recent shootings in Anguilla.
The first victim was Carl Stephen Carter, in his 60s, who was found with a fatal gunshot wound to his head in his home in The Farrington on the evening of Friday, 7 February.
Then on Monday, 17 February, Omari Roberts, a 29-year-old visitor from the British Virgin Islands, was pronounced dead after a shooting in Hillside Bar and Grill in South Hill around midnight.
No arrests have been made in either case.
The governor and premier delivered a statement following a briefing from the Commissioner of Police Robert Clark the afternoon of the second shooting death.
It said they are “deeply concerned” and strongly condemn the murders of Carter and Roberts, as well as the non-fatal shooting of a man, 29, from The Keys in Island Harbour on Saturday, 8 February.
“Our thoughts and prayers are firstly with the family and friends of all those who have lost their lives and all those affected,” they said.
The statement said they are aware of the heightened anxiety and fear this will have created across the “normally peaceful island”.
“This is not something we are, or should ever become, accustomed to,” they added.
The governor and premier said the Royal Anguilla Police Force is working tirelessly to identify those responsible for each of these incidents and they are following several leads.
“It is too early to speculate on the motives behind each incident and the public should not assume that they are connected,” they added.
The governor and premier thanked the members of the public who have already come forward and urged anyone else with information to get in touch with police.
Six homicides were recorded in 2024, and charges have been brought in only one of those cases.
