Acting on the advice of Premier Cora Richardson Hodge, Governor Julia Crouch has officially assigned portfolios to Anguilla’s five newly elected ministers.
They are:
- Cora Richardson Hodge – Minister of Finance, Labour, Immigration, Home Affairs and Constitutional Affairs
- Cardigan Connor – Minister of Health, Tourism and Sports
- Shellya Rogers-Webster – Minister of Social Development, Education and Library, Youth and Culture
- Kyle Hodge – Minister of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce, Lands, Planning, Water and
Natural Resources - José Vanterpool – Minister of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing, IT and E-Government Services
In addition, the following appointments have been made to support the ministers’ work:
- Cordell Richardson – Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Infrastructure, Housing and Natural Resources
- Evans McNiel Rogers – Senior Ministerial Advisor – Health
- Jeison Bryan – Ministerial Assistant – Sports, Youth and Culture
The governor’s assignments were made in accordance with the constitution and were announced in a press release on 4 March.
“Her excellency extends congratulations to all ministers, the parliamentary secretary, and other appointees and looks forward to working together to serve the people of Anguilla,” it read.
General election
The Anguilla United Front (AUF) won eight of the 11 available seats in the Anguilla House of Assembly during the general election on 26 February, securing a majority to form the island’s new government.
The AUF’s winning candidates were party leader Cora Richardson Hodge, Shellya Rogers-Webster, Cordell Richardson, Cardigan Connor, Kyle Hodge, José Vanterpool, Evans McNiel Rogers and Jeison Bryan.
Former premier Ellis Webster, former tourism and infrastructure minister Haydn Hughes and Merrick Richardson of the Anguilla Progressive Movement will form the official opposition.
Cora Richardson Hodge made history on 27 February when she was officially sworn in as Anguilla’s first female premier.
She received an outpouring of congratulations from across the Caribbean for her impressive achievement with hopes expressed for continued collaboration.
