Non-profit donates science equipment to Anguilla high school

The Kimdra Smith-Webster Foundation has donated US$1,355 worth of science equipment to the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School.

The non-profit organisation, founded in 2017, supports academic excellence and education as a catalyst for personal and national development.

It is best known for its annual scholarship for students seeking to pursue tertiary education, a press release from the Department of Education explained.

The recent donation was made in response to a request from the school’s curriculum officer of science, Winston Duncan, who conducted a detailed needs assessment.

Items included thermal laminating pouches, tape measures, stop watches, glass beakers, a paper cutter, lab chemicals, pH papers, scales, test tube racks and test tubes.

In the press release, deputy principal Perry Richardson said the equipment will enhance hands-on learning, helping science students better understand and apply their studies.

“This donation will also aid our teachers in delivering more effective lessons and experiments, fostering a greater passion for science and discovery,” he added.

The brother of foundation namesake, Kimdra Smith-Webster, said he believes the donation will have a positive impact on the students and faculty and is committed to more support in the future.

Chief education officer Bren Romney encouraged anyone who may be interested in providing donations to liaise with the Department of Education at education.mailbox@gov.ai

    1. Great question! Items included thermal laminating pouches, tape measures, stop watches, glass beakers, a paper cutter, lab chemicals, pH papers, scales, test tube racks and test tubes. I’ve added that information to the story. Rebecca Bird, Editor
