New Anglia University in Anguilla has announced the appointment of Professor Oleg Kvlividze as the educational facility’s new provost.
He will act as a senior administrative officer at the medical university and be responsible for overseeing academic affairs, and the overall direction of the institution.
Kvlividze is a globally renowned authority in rare and undiagnosed diseases, dermatology, and sexually transmitted infections.
He brings a wealth of expertise in medical research, education and patient advocacy, a press release from the university said on 27 November.
Kvlividze earned his PhD from Tbilisi State Medical University in Georgia, where his research focused on human papillomavirus (HPV) expression and skin diseases.
He then held distinguished academic positions as a professor in the school of medicine at leading institutions worldwide, the press release said.
In 2009, he co-founded the Georgian Foundation for Genetic and Rare Diseases (GeRaD) and has served as its CEO.
Through the foundation, he champions improved healthcare policies and enhanced treatment access for rare disease patients in Georgia.
Kvlividze’s leadership extends to global organisations such as IRDiRC, Orphanet, UDNI, RDI, and EURORDIS, where he has been a driver of international initiatives in rare disease research and advocacy.
Since 2024, he has represented Georgia as a principal representative on the European Rare Diseases Research Alliance governing board.
With over 80 peer-reviewed publications, his work has significantly advanced understanding in rare and undiagnosed diseases, genetics, dermatology and venereology.
A frequent organiser and keynote speaker at major international conferences, he has fostered collaboration and innovation within these specialised fields.
“His visionary leadership, academic achievements, and steadfast commitment to advancing medical science perfectly align with New Anglia University’s mission,” the press release said.
“This appointment heralds a new era of growth and academic distinction for our university.”
Chartered by the government, New Anglia University in George Hill offers contemporary medical programmes.
The facility features classrooms, a lecture hall, laboratories, libraries, computer labs, examination rooms, operating rooms, conference rooms, a student centre and outdoor space.
