A 37-year-old man was fatally injured in a shooting at The Valley food court, also known as The Strip, early on Saturday morning.
The incident took place on Landsome Road on 8 March at about 1.20am, the Royal Anguilla Police Force said in a statement later that day.
They explained that the man “sustained gunshot injuries” and was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything around the time of the incident to reach out.
“If you saw or hear anything suspicious, please come forward. Even the smallest detail could assist in our investigation,” the statement said.
Premier Cora Richardson Hodge later identified the victim as Shomari Fahai who she described in an official statement as a “valued member of our community”.
Escalating gun crime
On Monday, 10 March, the Governor’s Office said on Facebook that Governor Julia Crouch is in Miami meeting with other governors of the Caribbean overseas territories.
The aim of the meeting is to set actions to address gun crime and violence in the region, the office said.
The latest fatal shooting marks the fourth homicide in Anguilla so far this year.
Carl Stephen Carter, in his 60s, was shot dead in The Farrington on the evening of Friday, 7 February.
Twenty-nine-year-old Omari Roberts, who was visiting from the British Virgin Islands, was then killed at Hillside Bar and Grill on Back Street in South Hill in the early hours of Monday, 17 February.
Commissioner of Police Robert Clark has also reclassified the investigation into the disappearance of 27-year-old Teric Glenston Hickson on 4 January as murder.
Six homicides were recorded in 2024, with charges brought in just one of those cases. Five homicides were recorded in 2023, again with charges brought in just one case.
