Anguilla team promotes island at Bahamas aviation conference

A team from the Government of Anguilla jetted off to the Bahamas this month to promote the island at a regional aviation conference.

Routes Americas 2025, held from 10 to 12 February, is a route development forum that brings together airline, airport and destination decision-makers.

It provided the Anguilla team with a platform to engage in strategic discussions, explore new route possibilities, and strengthen partnerships to enhance air connectivity.

A major talking point was the ongoing development of the Clayton J Lloyd International Airport including a new terminal, expected to be operational by November, and an expanded runway.

The team also explored opportunities for seasonal services from major US hubs, direct routes from the US northeast, and non-stop connections from Canada, a press release said.

American Airlines reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing existing services, including potential frequency increases from Miami and expanded connectivity from other key markets.

Additionally, the St Barts team strongly expressed interest in establishing seamless connections between the island and Anguilla for the luxury travel customer.

Regional carriers such as Tradewind Aviation, InterCaribbean Airways, and Caribbean Airlines showed interest in expanding services between San Juan, St Thomas, and other intra-Caribbean routes.

In the press release, tourism minister Haydn Hughes said the government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that air connectivity continues to be a top priority.

The Anguilla team comprised Kendell Richardson, quality assurance and compliance manager with the tourism ministry, and Jabari Harrigan, executive airport manager at the Anguilla Air and Seaport Authority.

Joining them were tourism director Stacey Liburd and tourism deputy director Chantelle Richardson from the Anguilla Tourist Board and Avery Thomas, accountable manager of Anguilla Air Services.
