Gov’t high school welcomes new deputy principal of curriculum

Sherry Marcia Hodge has been appointed the new deputy principal of curriculum at Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS), officially beginning her role on 2 January.

With over 20 years of teaching, curriculum, and administrative experience, Hodge brings a wealth of expertise to her new role, according to a press release from the Department of Education on 20 December.

She has taught French, Spanish, and English, as well as tutored in postgraduate teacher education programmes and trained educators in curriculum development and language learning.

Before entering education, Hodge spent a decade in law enforcement and emergency operations, showcasing her diverse professional background.

The press release said she gained experience in customer service, human resources and technology integration.

Most recently, she worked as coordinator at the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) from 2017 to 2024.

There her focus was to provide the environment and support for students to participate in crafting their educational experiences in a more empowering and positive way.

In the press release, Hodge said she was looking forward to working collaboratively with the school’s senior management team, heads of department, teaching staff, students, parents and employers.

“Her goal is to identify the educational outcomes that best align with the unique needs of each stakeholder, fostering consensus among competing priorities,” the release continued.

She aims to design and adapt curricula – both in content and delivery – to address the diverse requirements, with an emphasis on placing students at the centre of the learning experience.

In doing so, she also seeks to empower teachers by equipping them with the tools, training, and autonomy needed to effectively implement tailored educational strategies.
