Anguilla honours Marie Susan Gumbs on her milestone 101st birthday

With smiles, embraces and heartfelt wishes, Marie Susan Gumbs celebrated her 101st birthday, a cherished milestone for her family and the wider Anguillian community.

The much-loved centenarian, known as Suzette, welcomed a stream of visitors throughout the day on Thursday, 11 February, including Governor Julia Crouch.

She shared with her stories of singing in the church choir, managing a factory producing 13 types of cola and preparing the rooms for Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Anguilla in 1994.

The board presented the centenarian with a personalised birthday card and a cheque for EC$500 in honour of her special day.

Addressing her directly the board said: “Mrs Gumbs, your life inspires us all. We extend heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for continued blessings, good health and happiness.”
