AFA delivers coaching courses in goalkeeping and strength and conditioning

The Anguilla Football Association (AFA) has successfully delivered its C Licence coaching courses in goalkeeping, and strength and conditioning.

The courses are aligned with international coaching standards and the CONCACAF Coaching Convention and form part of AFA’s long-term strategy to build capacity in key technical areas of the game.

The AFA welcomed participants from across the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), including Grenada, St Lucia, Dominica, St Kitts, the British Virgin Islands, St Maarten, St Martin, as well as Anguilla.

In a press release on 4 July, AFA technical director Colin Johnson said the specialist courses mark a new chapter for football development in Anguilla.

“By empowering our coaches with world-class education, we are investing in the future of our players and the sport across the island,” he added.

AFA head of coach education Nigel Linton said the specialist courses reflect the club’s vision of positioning Anguilla at the forefront of coach education.

“We remain committed to providing world-class learning opportunities and supporting the growth of coaches both locally and across the region,” he said.

The goalkeeping coaching course, which included a blend of theoretical and practical learning, was held on 17 to 30 June and was led by UK-based coach educator Danny Alcock.

Course lead instructor Dan Neville expressed his admiration for both the participants and AFA’s commitment, saying it was a “real pleasure” to welcome candidates.

“We identified a knowledge gap in goalkeeping and strength and conditioning education, and we were thrilled that Anguilla agreed to partner with us to address it,” he said.

“The impact these courses will have on the coaches and their communities is significant. The participants were outstanding-engaged, curious, and eager to learn.

“Special thanks to tutors Danny Alcock and Jordan Tyrer for their dedication, and to Richard Hartis for crafting the goalkeeper curriculum.

“Most of all, congratulations to the Anguilla Football Association for their outstanding hospitality and commitment. Anguilla can be extremely proud of the impact they’ve made on the region.”
