Anguilla’s young athletes shine at AAU Club Championships

Young athletes from Morris Vanterpool Primary School, Adrian T Hazell Primary School and ROJets Athletics Academy excelled in an international competition in Florida.

Coach Pradel and Coach Rodi led the talented team to the AAU Primary and Club Championships earlier this month, where more than 4,000 competitors gathered from around the world.

A government statement on 24 July said: “We are incredibly proud of all the athletes who participated in the AAU Championships. Your dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship are truly inspiring.

“Congratulations on taking on this challenge and representing yourselves and Anguilla so well on the national stage.

“A special shout-out to those who achieved podium finishes and qualifications for future events – your achievements are remarkable.”

Standout performances

From Morris Vanterpool Primary School, Saniyah Richards, 11, earned a third place finish in the 100 metres heat and qualified for the semifinals in both the 100m and 200m.

Keiarah Webster, 12, dominated in the 800m heat, placing first and securing a spot at the upcoming Junior Olympics in North Carolina.

Other standouts were D’Miyah Connor in long jump and 800m, Jovauncia Gumbs in long jump, 100m and 200m, Muriyah Richarsdon in 100m and 200m, and Theodore Webster in long jump, 1500m and 800m.

From Adrian T Hazell Primary School, standout athletes included Auraun Lawrence in 800m, 1500m and 3000m, and Aurian Lawrence in 800m, 1500m and 3000m.

From ROJets Athletics Academy, Jaylon Hughes, 8, showcased his skills in the 400m, turbo javelin, and shot put where he placed eighth.

Ethan Kendal, 10, competed in the 200m, 400m, and long jump, Caleb Kendall, 14, raced in the 200m, 400m, and long jump, and Monae Hughes, 18, showed her speed in the 400m race.

Huekuan Hughes, 15, threw their way to a 10th place finish in shot put.
