Governor Julia Crouch has dissolved the Anguilla House of Assembly in preparation for the general election at the end of February.
In a statement on Tuesday, 28 January, he governor outlined the steps she has taken in accordance with the Anguilla Constitution following consultations with Premier Ellis Webster.
Firstly, she issued a proclamation dissolving the 12th Anguilla House of Assembly as of 29 January.
Secondly, she proclaimed that the general election will take place on 26 February, with advance polls set for 25 February.
She said ministers will continue to oversee their portfolios until they cease to be ministers or members of the executive branch of government, which is distinct from the legislative branch.
The Executive Council will continue to meet and manage the government’s day-to-day business.
On Wednesday, 29 January, the governor then issued the writs of election to allow for the election of members of the House of Assembly for the electoral districts.
Returning officers have now issued notices of nominations as according to the Anguilla Elections Act. which can be read in full here.
Nomination day will be on 7 February.
