Anguilla Football Association welcomes new general secretary

The Anguilla Football Association (AFA) has appointed Twyla Richardson-Thomas as its new general secretary.

A press release announcing the appointment on 13 January said her strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail make her an ideal fit for the role.

It added that her approach to leadership is rooted in a lifelong learning philosophy, and she is committed to fostering an environment of growth, collaboration, and excellence within the AFA.

Richardson-Thomas said she was truly honoured to step into the role of general secretary with the Anguilla Football Association on 2 September, 2024.

“Football is a vital part of our community, and I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to advance the development of the sport and provide our young players with the tools they need to succeed.”

Richardson-Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Johnson and Wales University and brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

As a seasoned professional, she has made significant contributions to the business landscape of Anguilla, notably as a marketing officer in the hospitality sector and as an award-winning entrepreneur.

Her strategic thinking, innovative approach, and strong leadership skills will be invaluable assets to the AFA as it continues to develop football on the island, the press release said.

Richardson-Thomas’ commitment to the sport in Anguilla is longstanding.

She has been actively involved with the AFA in a variety of capacities, including organising major events as an event planner and serving as team manager for national female teams.

She has also supported local grassroots academies and youth football programmes, reflecting her deep passion for youth development and creating opportunities for young athletes.

“The AFA is confident that under Twyla’s leadership, the Association will continue to thrive, creating new opportunities for players, coaches, and the wider football community,” the press release concluded.

“The appointment marks a significant step forward in the AFA’s ongoing mission to grow and elevate football in Anguilla.”
