FIFA president Gianni Infantino helped celebrate a milestone for grassroots football in Anguilla at the opening of a new purpose-built mini-pitch.
A delegation from FIFA joined pupils, government representatives and football officials at the facility at Valley Primary School on 4 November to mark the official inauguration.
The pitch will provide both pupils and the public with a dedicated space to play football, develop their skills and take part in organised sporting activities.

The government provided the land for the facility and contributed EC$250,000 to carry out the preparatory work and installation of the sub-base, through contractor Bumba Construction.

Following completion of the groundwork, FIFA, in collaboration with the Anguilla Football Association (AFA), provided the artificial turf and oversaw its installation.
In brief remarks at the inauguration, ministerial assistant for sports Jeison Bryan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing sports across the island.

He highlighted the importance of investing in facilities that will benefit future generations, and recognised the power of sport to unite the world, inspire young people and unlock countless possibilities.
In a press release, the government thanked FIFA, the AFA, the ministries of sports and education, project teams, contractors, technical personnel, the school administration and other stakeholders.
“Today, we celebrate more than a football facility. We celebrate opportunity, community, youth development and a stronger sporting future for Anguilla,” it read.
A second mini pitch is being built at Vivien Vanterpool Primary School in Island Harbour.
