Welches Hill man charged with attempted murder and remanded in custody

A 20-year-old man from Welches Hill has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

The charges are in relation to a shooting in Island Harbour at about 8pm on 13 March, after which one man was treated for gunshot injuries.

Landy Vanterpool appeared before the Magistrate’s Court charged with the offences on Friday, 27 March, where he was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison in The Valley.

In a press release on 30 March, Commissioner of Police Robert Clark said the Royal Anguilla Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance approach to gun crime.

“The 2025 to 2030 Policing Plan clearly identifies the reduction of serious violent crime, particularly offences involving firearms, as a top priority,” he said.

“We will continue to take decisive action against those who choose to engage in this type of criminal activity, and we remain fully committed to protecting the safety of our communities and bringing offenders before the courts.”
