Public consultation opens on new gender policy and action plan for Anguilla

As another successful Women’s Week comes to an end in Anguilla, members of the public are being invited to provide input to help shape a new national gender framework.

The Gender Affairs Unit has launched a stakeholder and public opinion survey to inform the development of the island’s National Gender Policy and Action Plan.

It will serve as strategy for advancing gender equality, strengthening protections and promoting inclusive social and economic development across the island.

In February the unit appointed Dr Ronya Foy-Connor, principal of Foy Global Consulting, to support the development of the policy and action plan.

Designed to capture perspectives on fairness, inclusion, equality, and equity, the survey invites respondents to share their views on opportunities and barriers experienced by different groups in Anguilla.

The questionnaire, launched on 9 March, consists of 10 key questions and includes a glossary to support understanding of important terms.

The questions explore key areas including access to jobs, pay, housing, respect and safety.

They also examine priority programmes to improve opportunities for women, men, youth and vulnerable populations, workplace fairness and hiring practices, and perceptions of equality and opportunity across Anguilla.

Responses are confidential and participants are encouraged to answer honestly based on their experiences and observations.

Gender development coordinator Kemoloy Murphy told Anguilla Focus: “We encourage members of the public to participate so that the policy reflects the voices and lived experiences of people across our island.”

Physical copies of the survey are available at community development centres, the General Post Office and Inland Revenue until 20 March – or people can access it online here.
