Anguilla church to host celebratory service marking International Women’s Day

Mount Fortune Seventh-day Adventist Church will be hosting a celebratory service for International Women’s Day this March.

Forming part of Women’s Week, the day is this year celebrated under the theme ‘Give to Gain: Accelerating rights and justice for women and girls’.

The theme amplifies women’s voices and highlights that when society invest in the rights, protection, leadership and wellbeing of women and girls, everyone benefits.

It also highlights the urgent need to turn commitment into action by strengthening protections, expanding opportunities and improving access to justice for women and girls.

Observed annually on 8 March, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

In Anguilla, the service, which is slated for 8 March at 4pm, will include the recognition of the 2026 RISE Women’s Awardees and will feature participation from various women’s organisations.

A special offering will also be collected in support of the Department of Social Development’s personal and developmental initiatives for the young people in the ‘place of safety’.

Gender development coordinator Kemoloy Murphy told Anguilla Focus that the extended Women’s Week serves as a national platform to both celebrate progress and confront the work that still lies ahead.

“The annual service anchors this observance in reflection and collective resolve, reminding us that gender equality is not only a women’s issue, but also a national development priority,” she said.

“Through the spirit of this year’s theme ‘Give to Gain’, we are mobilising the entire community to move the agenda forward.

“The Gender Affairs Unit remains thankful to key partners and stakeholders for their continued support and commitment.”

The event is being hosted by the Gender Affairs Unit and the Anguilla National Council of Women.

They are supported by the Anglican Church Women Association, Seventh-day Adventist Women’s Ministry and the University of the West Indies Alumni Association – Anguilla Chapter.
