The UK-based Commonwealth Secretariat has awarded the Community Services Planning Unit a £5,000 grant to fund training and development opportunities for young people.
This money will pay for a programme that helps high-risk teens and young adults in Anguilla through vocational training, adult continuing education and personal skills development.
The first component of the initiative will focus on electrical and electronic skills development, complemented by literacy, numeracy and personal growth workshops.
It will target identified young people aged 16 and above from selected communities across the island, a press release from the Community Services Planning Unit said on 10 September.

Community services planner Hyacinth Augustine-Bradley said: “While youth crime prevention remains vital, we believe in building and empowering our most at-risk young people in positive and sustainable ways.
“This initiative represents an important step towards creating a brighter future for Anguilla, and this grant underscores the importance of investing in our youth.”
The Community Services Planning Unit is now in planning mode and looks forward to collaborating with key partners to ensure the programme’s success, the press release said.
On 13 August, the unit hosted its first Youth Voices Forum, providing a platform for young people to help shape the island’s future.
The landmark event, held under the theme ‘Local youth actions for the Sustainable Development Goals and beyond’, took place in celebration of International Youth Day.
