Walk About TV: Celebrating culture, travel and human connection

Molentiya Samuel has always been drawn to the world beyond her doorstep, driven by a curiosity for culture, travel and human connection.

That passion found its expression just over a year ago in Walk About TV – a vibrant platform where she brings regional communities, stories and experiences to life through her unique lens.

“From as far back as I can remember, I’ve been a lover of travel and culture,” the 28-year-old tells Anguilla Focus.

“I have fond memories of sitting with my grandmother, watching TLC, and feeling pure joy whenever Samantha Brown, the travel host, took us to new destinations.

“That euphoric spark of curiosity stayed with me, and over the years, my love for travel grew from a hobby into a passion I could no longer ignore.”

She first stepped into the spotlight as host of ‘What’s Gine On in Anguilla, where she honed her on-camera confidence and gained recognition on social media as ‘The Certified Walk About’.

After moving on from the role, a chance encounter in December 2023 with her visiting cousin from the US reignited the flame.

“He said, ‘Those interviews you were doing, you should continue. Don’t stop,’” Samuel recalls. “As I drove away, the thought hit me like a lightning bolt: Walk About TV.”

A busy year

After spending a few months quietly building her platform, she chose a trip to St Kitts last December as the moment to publicly launch her travel content project.

That journey led to a partnership with the Nevis Tourism Authority allowing her to take a familiarisation tour of the island – a pivotal moment she describes as her “launching pad”.

Since then, Walk About TV has gone from strength to strength.

At the beginning of 2025, Samuel took part in a virtual sit-down with the Discover Dominica Authority to discuss the Mas Domnik carnival.

The end of February brought her return of as the on-camera face for Anguilla’s annual Moonsplash Music Festival, marking her second time in the role.

During the festival she worked with and interviewed internationally recognised artists including The Wailers, Protoje, Mighty Mystic, Kumar Bent, Ras-I, Turbulence, and Burning Spear.

Samuel credits Olaide and the Moonsplash team for noticing her ability and giving her the chance to inject her personality, adding: “This opportunity firmed up my desire to step back into the light.”

She also delivered speaking engagements at her alma mater, The University of the West Indies, an honour she says filled her with ‘Pelican pride’.

A calling

For Samuel, Walk About TV is more than content – it’s a calling.

“Walk About TV isn’t a platform or channel – it is a purpose, it brings me joy and it is God ordained,” she tells Anguilla Focus.

She reflects on its organic growth and the support it has received from regional tourism boards and well-known personalities at such an early stage.

“Walk About TV is for the little girls with big dreams, it’s for people who want to explore but may have challenges, it gives voices to the voiceless and uncovers the coolest untold stories,” she says.

“It is simple, yet effective, it is educational, aspirational and inspirational.”

Today, Walk About TV reflects not only Samuel’s passion for travel and culture but also her mission to inspire others.

“As a Black woman from one of the smallest islands in the Caribbean, I feel incredibly blessed to have travelled to five of the seven continents by the age of 28,” she says.

“Through my journey, I want to inspire other women, especially those considered part of the ‘visible minority’, to see that travel is possible for us too.

“Travel connects us with people we might never meet otherwise, and it offers invaluable lessons in empathy, understanding and compassion by opening our eyes to different ways of life.”

A household name

Having grown up between Sweet Long Bay and South Valley in Anguilla, Samuel’s pride runs deep for her home community.

“What I love most about Anguilla is the food, I don’t think I have ever visited an island or country where the food could compare to home,” she says.

Alongside her regional milestones, she has continued to produce videos on island at events such as the South Valley Community Street Festival, Welches Fest and Festival Del Mar.

And her new segment ‘Riddim on de Road’ provides a platform for musical artists to share their journey, while spotlighting local businesses and off-the-beaten-path destinations.

As her project enters its second year, she reflects on her mission.

“At Walk About TV, my goal is to explore my identity, interests and cultural perspectives while creating content that bridges the gaps between the Caribbean and the world,” she says.

“I aim to draw positive attention to Caribbean culture and foster understanding of diverse cultures as I embark on this journey of discovery.”

As the platform continues to grow, Samuel predicts “twists and turns”, but says she’s determined not to give up, adding that she’s excited to share more stories, connect with new voices, and explore new places.
