Two charged after police discover several cannabis plants

A man and a woman from Stoney Ground, both in their 50s, have been charged after authorities found several cannabis plants.

Officers from the Royal Anguilla Police Force’s Tactical Unit discovered the illegal drugs at about 7pm on 13 September, a police press release said on 17 September.

They did not say where the plants were found.

On 15 September, Adolph O’Flaherty was charged with cultivation of cannabis and Joan Leduc was charged with reckless driving and obstruction.

They appeared at the Magistrate’s Court on 16 September where O’Flaherty was granted EC$40,000 bail with one surety and Leduc was granted EC$10,000 bail.

The Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) Act states that it is unlawful for any person to cultivate a cannabis plant, and anyone who does so is guilty of an offence.

The arrests come just weeks after police seized cannabis plants near West End Cemetery, after getting a tip-off from a member of the public.
