Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Omari Roberts in a bar in Anguilla earlier this month, police have confirmed.
Warrants were executed as part of ongoing inquiries and the individuals detained, a statement from the Royal Anguilla Police Force said on 27 February.
Officers first received a report of an incident at Hillside Bar and Grill on Back Street in South Hill just after 12am on Monday, 17 February.
On arrival they found 29-year-old Roberts unresponsive with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was from the British Virgin Islands and had arrived in Anguilla just days earlier on 14 February.
During an interview on Radio Anguilla on 19 February, Commissioner of Police Robert Clark called it a “brutal and shocking” murder.
“There are a number of theories – was it a robbery or was it something more sinister?,” he said, adding that the victim had been a subject of interest in the BVI.
He told listeners that Anguilla police are working very closely with the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force which was due to send two detectives to assist with the investigation.
The police chief added: “I appeal, please, if you know anything, if you saw anything, I understand you may not want to make a witness statement, but please use the confidential website.
“Please use that to tell us what you know and it cannot be traced back. Help us solve this.”
The death of Omari Roberts marked the third homicide in Anguilla in 2025 to date.
Carl Stephen Carter, in his 60s, was shot dead in The Farrington on the evening of Friday, 7 February.
Commissioner of Police Robert Clark also reclassified the investigation into the disappearance of 27-year-old Teric Glenston Hickson on 4 January as murder.
Six homicides were recorded in 2024, with charges brought in just one of those cases. Five homicides were recorded in 2023, again with charges brought in just one case.
