Talks begin on major upgrade to Anguilla’s marine tourism facilities

Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority has signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with Island Global Yachting, opening formal talks on new world-class maritime facilities for Anguilla.

The proposed project – led by the luxury marina developer – aims to establish a welcome centre and mooring system modelled after the likes of Simpson Bay Marina in Sint Maarten.

A press release from the authority on 2 July said this will increase mega yacht and cruise visitor arrivals, boost local economic activity, and create new employment opportunities in the maritime industry.

It described the partnership as “a major step” toward expanding Anguilla’s marine tourism sector while maintaining the integrity of local port, customs and immigration protocols.

Next steps

With the non-disclosure agreement now in place, both organisations will proceed with detailed planning and proposal development.

This includes Island Global Yachting submitting a comprehensive project proposal to the authority for review and feedback.

They will together establish concrete timelines for project milestones and training programmes and schedule follow-up meetings to finalise the terms and conditions of the proposed agreement.

Sherman Williams, chief executive officer of Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority said the NDA represents a promising opportunity to responsibly expand marine and cruise tourism infrastructure.

“We look forward to working closely with IGY to ensure this project reflects our values, benefits our people, and strengthens our economy,” he added.

Key themes

During the recent meeting between representatives from Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority and Island Global Yachting several key themes were discussed.

Both organisations emphasised the importance of maintaining a transparent and respectful relationship with the government and the people of Anguilla throughout the development process.

Island Global Yachting expressed strong interest in training Anguillians for roles within the maritime and hospitality sectors, ensuring that locals are directly involved in the long-term operations of the facility.

Both parties underscored the need for environmentally sound practices in the design and operation of the proposed facilities, the press release said.

The authority expressed eagerness to receive Island Global Yachting’s full proposal and committed to working collaboratively to ensure the plan meets Anguilla’s strategic development goals.
