Swimsuit competition and festival awards ceremony rescheduled

The 50th anniversary Anguilla Summer Festival awards ceremony will now be held on Sunday, 28 July, in place of the NCBA Miss Anguilla swimsuit competition.

The pageant competition will instead go ahead on 6 August at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre in The Valley, the Anguilla Summer Festival Committee has announced.

The change allows the contestants additional time to prepare for the main event, the committee wrote in a press release on Monday, 22 July.

The awards ceremony and dance titled ’50 for 50: Night of the legends’ will be held at the Aurora Anguilla Resort amphitheatre on Rendezvous Bay.

Fifty people who have made significant contributions to the development of the Anguilla Summer Festival since 1974 will be honoured.

They will each receive a custom award featuring shaped pieces of the original Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre, hand-selected during its demolition.

To cap the night off, legends of soca Edwin Yearwood and Krosfyah from Barbados, and Mussington Brothers from Anguilla will be performing.

In the press release, festival chair Ivan Connor Jr said he is “elated” for the 50 people that will be honoured on July 28.

“And even more excited to witness Edwin Yearwood and Krosfyah and our very own Mussington Brothers on the same stage for one spectacular night,” he said.

“The Aurora Amphitheater is one of the best performance spaces in the world and a fitting scape that celebrates all things uniquely Anguillian, yet globally relevant.

“People will definitely enjoy what promises to be one of the best events of the festival. It’s a ‘big people party’ – come out dressed resort chic and ready to dance the night away.”
