The Royal Anguilla Police Force has taken a suspect into custody following a morning shooting in Rock Farm that left three people injured.
At about 6am on Tuesday, 15 July, police received a report of gunshots in the vicinity of an apartment complex, a police press release said.
Officers were dispatched to the location in The Valley, where it was confirmed that three people had sustained non-fatal injuries inside the building.
All three adult victims – one woman and two men – are currently receiving medical attention.
A Glock pistol semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the scene and officers detained one suspect in connection with the incident.
Police later acknowledged that “brave civilians” helped to restrain the suspect and said they “deeply appreciate” their actions but would not be releasing names.
“We kindly remind the public that in ongoing investigations, especially those involving serious offences such as this, witness protection is a priority,” a statement said.
“For their safety and the integrity of the case, we are unable to publicly identify or discuss the individuals who assisted at this time. We thank the community for their continued support and understanding.”
Shortly before 11am, Superintendent Shem Wills released a voice recording from the scene affirming the police force’s continued commitment to protecting the community.
“We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the growing role of the public in helping us do just that,” he said.
“Every tip, every call and every act of courage from members of the public makes a real difference in keeping Anguilla safe.
“While we must protect the identity of those who assist in investigations, we want to make it clear your involvement matters.
“Crime prevention is more effective when the community and police work together. We thank all who continue to speak up, stand up and support a safer Anguilla.”
