The Grenada Tourism Authority has named Anguilla’s outgoing tourism director Stacey Liburd as its new chief executive officer.
Liburd brings over 15 years of experience in destination marketing, stakeholder engagement and sustainable tourism development to the role.
In a press release from the Grenada Tourism Authority, Liburd said she was deeply honoured to accept the position which begins on 15 June.
“Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique are destinations of extraordinary beauty, culture, and potential,” she said.
“I look forward to working closely with our industry partners to further elevate our brand and ensure tourism brings meaningful, sustainable benefits to our people.”
Grenada Tourism Authority chair Randall Dolland welcomed the appointment, describing Liburd as a strategic leader with the right expertise to move the industry forward.
“Stacey Liburd brings a wealth of knowledge and a strategic mindset that is essential to the continued growth and evolution of Grenada’s tourism industry,” he said.
Grenada’s tourism minister Adrian Thomas said Liburd’s appointment would help guide the sector into a new era.
“Her accomplishments speak for themselves,” he said, adding: “Her leadership will guide our industry into its next phase of innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.”
The Grenada Tourism Authority also paid tribute to outgoing CEO Petra Roach, thanking her for her leadership and wishing her success in her new role with Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.
Tourism career
Liburd has extensive experience in the tourism industry across the Caribbean.
Before her tenure as director of tourism in Anguilla, she held senior marketing roles at several high-end resorts and tourism operators.
Her earlier career included positions at Zemi Beach House, Long Bay Villas, Santosha Estate, and Tranquility Beach Resort.
She also served as business development manager at Calypso Charters, where she expanded corporate accounts and led training initiatives.
Her leadership at the Anguilla Tourist Board was marked by a focus on rebuilding and repositioning the destination after the COVID-19 pandemic.
She served as a member of the board of directors where she chaired the marketing committee before being appointed as director of tourism in January 2021 by then tourism minister Haydn Hughes.
At the time, Hughes described her in a press release as someone who had “our confidence and support as we forge ahead”.
Anguilla Tourist Board chair Kenroy Herbert called her “a creative tourism marketer and a results-oriented manager”.
Shattered barriers
Reflecting on her time in Anguilla, Liburd said her role at the Anguilla Tourist Board, which ends on 14 June, had been both a privilege and a profound responsibility.
“For the past decade, Anguilla has been more than just my home; it has been a sanctuary that has profoundly rooted me in a sense of belonging and allowed me to thrive both personally and professionally.
“This vibrant island has shaped my identity, instilling a deep appreciation for our culture and resilience.”
She said the past four years have been riddled with challenges but led her to discover a family in the board of directors at the Anguilla Tourist Board.
“Together, we have not merely navigated obstacles; we have shattered barriers and achieved unprecedented milestones that I hope will illuminate the path for the future,” she said.
Liburd said she is proud of both the board’s achievements and witnessing the transformative growth of the team.
She concluded: “I am immensely proud to identify as a Belonger of this extraordinary island, and
wherever life’s adventures may lead me, I will continue to represent my home with honour and dignity.
“That pride is embedded within me, unshaken and unwavering.”
