“It’s always the goal of this administration to have a modern, state-of-the-art hospital facility and when we have the funding that will be done.”
Those were the words of Premier Ellis Webster, who is also Minister of Health, when asked in a press conference on 1 July if the government had plans for a new hospital in Anguilla.
“There are always plans for a new modern facility, we’ve talked about that ad nauseam, and what that will require is that we have enough funding to do that,” he said.
The premier stressed that the government has “lots of priorities” which have to be executed in order of importance.
But, he told the press and members of the public watching the live stream, there have been several improvements made at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in The Valley.
“We have provided services that were not there before,” he said, “like MRI machine for diagnostics, like a dialysis centre”.
“So there are things that are being done to bolster up what we have,” he added.
Webster also mentioned the Senior Shield programme which makes sure that residents aged 70 years and older have access to free medical care.
Finally, he spoke of a US$300,000 donation of equipment and beds and supplies from the Richard Schulze Family Foundation and the lab space being doubled.
