The Royal Anguilla Police Force has named the victim of yesterday’s fatal shooting in East End as 23-year-old Marquin Connor of Island Harbour.
Officers found the young man unresponsive in the Mount Fortune area following reports of gunshots sometime after 7am on 1 July.
Police are continuing their investigations into the homicide and the press office told Anguilla Focus on 2 July that they are “looking into several persons of interest”.
They have not released any further details.
This death marks the tenth homicide in Anguilla since the beginning of the year and the third in a week. All of the victims were men, and eight of them were aged between 22 and 37.
On 24 June, Jarmarie Richardson, 36, of Pond Ground was found dead inside a vehicle near Sile Bay beach with suspected gunshot wounds.
And 25-year-old Pajal Liburd from Rey Hill was fatally shot in a convenience store opposite Sol Gas Station on Albert Lake Drive in The Valley on 27 June.
No one has been charged yet in connection with any of the incidents this year.
In a joint statement following the shooting, Premier Cora Richardson Hodge and Acting Governor Perin Bradley said Governor Crouch will be discussing security while in the United Kingdom.
The governor – who oversees internal security in Anguilla – is in London for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s annual Heads of Mission Conference.
The conference brings together senior diplomats and representatives from across the UK’s overseas missions to discuss key foreign policy priorities and share best practices.
The premier and acting governor urged anyone with relevant information to assist the police force in its ongoing investigation.
“Now more than ever, we must embrace our shared responsibility to uphold the rule of law and to support our law enforcement officers in their critical work,” they said.
Six homicides were recorded in 2024, with charges brought in just one of those cases. Five homicides were recorded in 2023, again with charges brought in just one case.
