Police confirm death of courthouse shooting victim

The victim of this morning’s shooting outside the Anguilla Courthouse in The Valley has died, police have said.

The 33-year-old man from Bad Cox Pond is the fourth person to be killed in a gun-related incident in the space of two weeks.

Earlier today, a statement from the Royal Anguilla Police Force said a shooting took place on 19 July at about 10.40am.

It said that officers promptly arrived at the scene to secure the area and conduct an initial investigation.

Just after 2pm, police issued a second statement confirming that the individual involved has “tragically succumbed to their injuries”.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” it added.

The statement said the police force is continuing its inquiries into the incident and is determined to bring those responsible to justice.

“We are appealing to the public for any information that could assist us in our investigation,” it read.

“We urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward.

“Your cooperation is vital in helping us solve this case and ensure the safety of our community.”

The shooting comes amid a surge in gun-related crime in Anguilla, with three men losing their lives in three separate shooting incidents in just over a week this July.
