Officers from the Royal Anguilla Police Force have detained a 29-year-old man from The Farrington in connection with a fatal shooting on Friday evening.
They arrested the suspect, who has not yet been named, on suspicion of murder on Monday, 10 February, and he remains in custody as investigations continue, a police statement confirmed.
At about 6pm on Friday, 7 February, police responded to an emergency call, and found an unresponsive man with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The victim, now identified as Carl Stephen Carter, also of The Farrington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police told Anguilla Focus that he was in his 60s, adding that the family have chosen for his exact age not to be released.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss,” the police statement said.
“We are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area to come forward. Any information, no matter how small, may assist in our ongoing investigation.”
This marks the first recorded homicide in Anguilla for 2025. There were six homicides in 2024, with charges brought in only one case.
