The ‘Dizzy Brooks’ Calypso Monarch semifinals, originally planned for Friday, 19 July, have been rescheduled to Tuesday, 23 July, to allow for additional rehearsal time.
The event will now take place at the Aurora Anguilla Resort amphitheatre in Rendezvous Bay, instead of the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre.
A press release from the Anguilla Summer Festival Committee on 18 July said changes in the date have been made to accommodate the requests of the calypsonians.
They asked for more rehearsal time with the accompanying band following the “slippage” in dates for the previously held quarterfinals, the committee said.
The venue change is due to the ongoing works at the newly rebuilt cultural centre, it added.
“It promises to be a keenly contested competition and each Calypsonian will perform two songs for a chance to advance to the Calypso Monarch finals.”
The 16 semifinalists are LS, Linger, Gossip, Hotshot, Springer, Queen B, Bossman, Sunbeam, Pontiques, Mr Decent, Dr Splinter, Messenger, Lady ‘Nansi, Kaiso Nicky, Singing Vero, and His Majesty Baker Jr.
The event will take place at 7.30pm and general admission is EC$40 or US$15.
Nine calypsonians will be selected to compete against the reigning Calypso Monarch, Queen Roxxy, in the finals on Wednesday, 7 August, at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre.
