Man from The Forest jailed for one year for illegal gun possession

Shaquan Hodge of The Forest, has been sentenced to one year in prison for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

He appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 16 January, where he was informed that the two sentences would run concurrently.

The conviction stems from an incident in September, 2024, after which Hodge was charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and possession of cannabis.

A statement on 5 September, from the Royal Anguilla Police Force explained the circumstances around Hodge’s arrest.

It said that on Tuesday, 3 September, at about 7pm, officers from the Tactical Unit stopped a vehicle in Swing High in The Valley which Hodge was driving.

Upon searching the car and Hodge, they found a Glock pistol with 12 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition and cannabis.

They arrested him and brought him to The Valley Police Station.

Following his initial appearance before the Magistrate’s Court on 6 September, 2024, Hodge was granted bail in the sum of EC$60,000 with one surety.

At the time, Commissioner of Police Robert Clark said: “I want to make it clear that there is absolutely no place for illegal firearms and drugs in our community.

“The Royal Anguilla Police Force will remain vigilant and steadfast in our efforts to remove these threats from our streets.

“I encourage everyone to come forward with any information that can assist us. Together, we can ensure the safety and security of our island.”
