Man arrested in murder investigation released without charge

A man arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Carl Stephen Carter has been released without charge, police have confirmed.

In a statement on 14 February, the Royal Anguilla Police Force said dedicated detectives continue to actively investigate the fatal shooting and are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry.

A member of the public found the victim unresponsive at his home in The Farrington in the southeast of Anguilla on Friday, 7 February.

Officers responded to an emergency call at about 6pm and discovered Carter, who was in his 60s, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A senior police spokesperson said: “Mr Carter was an elderly man who lived alone and was known to be a private person.

“He had resided in The Farrington for many years and was well known within the local community. His murder has deeply shocked the community.

“What took place last Friday – 7 February – was a senseless and cowardly act. We are fully committed to finding out who was responsible.

“I strongly urge anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward and assist us in this investigation.”
